About the event

From 1883 until 1920, steel magnet Andrew Carnegie underwrote the cost of building hundreds of public libraries in virtually all corners of the United States. Carnegie had amassed a vast fortune in the steel industry. Beginning in 1900, dozens of Michigan communities, large and small, benefited from the steel magnet's largesse. Presented by freelance writer and author Paul Vachon, we will explore how the program worked here in the Great Lakes State of Michigan through images and commentary.
