Patron Services
Dearborn Heights Library strives to offer a wide variety of services to its community. Please read about some of them in the tabs below.
Free Home Delivery & Pick-Up
In order to further enhance our services, we are offering home delivery of materials to Dearborn Heights residents through our Home Delivery program.
To participate:
1) Use the catalog on our website at https://www.dhlibrary.org or call our libraries during operating hours with the information of what you would like to put on hold. Our staff will then pull the material or request it from another library.
2) When you receive notice via text, e-mail, or phone that your material has arrived, call us to let us know what day is good for drop-off. We are currently delivering on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
3) Staff will then check out the items to your library card and prepare them for delivery on the day specified.
4) We also will do pickup of library materials (no donations at this time). You can call and request pickup during the time slots listed above.
If you choose to participate in Home Delivery, please note:
1) Patrons are responsible for any items damaged due to weather or theft as always, so be responsible and bag them where possible.
2) Be alert for items you request via drop off.
3) You must be a Dearborn Heights resident.
4) Limit is 20 items. Staff reserves the right to refuse delivery if conditions prohibit safe drop off or pick up. We will call if delivery has been cancelled or postponed.
Materials from our Library of Things, such as Hotspots and Power Banks are not eligible for delivery.
Document Services
We provide a variety of essential document and print services. Avoid the line at FedEx or UPS and visit your public library the next time you need to print or fax a few pages!
Printing 🖨️
Printing is available from all library desktop computers via our Print Release Software, SAM. Want to print directly from your phone or laptop? 📱 💻 Log in using your library card number and PIN here. Your PIN is typically the last four digits of the phone number we have on file. Select your images or documents, and upload them. Then, simply head to the Print Release Station at either branch.
Want to email it to us instead? Send to either DHReference@Gmail.com (for Caroline Kennedy pickup) or JFKReference@Gmail.com (for JFK, Jr. pickup).
Any way you choose to print, we're offering 10 free pages of printing per day. (Pages are charged by side printed on, not per sheet used.) Over 10 pages? The printing costs are $0.10 per page for black and white; $0.50 per page for color (per side).
To add funds, visit the Reference Desk or Circulation Desk with your Library Card or Guest Pass prior to visiting the Print Release Station.
We accept CASH or CHECK only.
Faxing 📠
The library offers both outgoing and incoming fax service to our patrons for a nominal fee. Inquire with Circulation Desk staff for details.
Pricing for outgoing faxes:
First five pages are free each day. $0.50 per page after.
We do not send international faxes.
Pricing for incoming faxes:
10 free pages and then $0.10 per page
Scanning 📑
Caroline Kennedy Library offers two free, self-serve options for scanning documents:
1. From our public copy machine, scan to a flash drive or email address.
2. From our Scanner Station, scan to a flash drive or computer.
John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library offers free scanning to either your own USB drive or an email address at their Circulation Desk.
Flash drives are available to borrow or purchase ($3 per 16GB USB drive) at the Circulation Desk and Reference Desk.
Notary Services 📄
Notary services are available at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Library. A duly appointed and impartial Notary Public may take acknowledgments, administer oaths or affirmations, and witness or attest to a signature. Notary services are provided free of charge. You must have valid driver's license, State ID or passport.
Under no circumstance will the Notary Public be able to provide legal advice.
Please call ahead for services at 313-791-6050.
Notary Service is by appointment only.
"The most common function of the notary is to prevent fraud by attesting to the identity of a person signing a document. Notarization on a document certifies that the person whose signature is entered on the document personally appeared before the notary, established his or her identity, and personally signed the document in the presence of the notary."

Connectivity Services
Wireless Internet
Dearborn Heights Library offers wireless internet access to all library users during our regular business hours free of charge. Access is available inside all public areas of the libraries.
Wireless internet access requires a password to log in, which can be obtained from the Circulation Desk or Reference Desk.
In using our wireless network, you thereby agree to our Internet Use Policy.
Hotspots
Are you a Dearborn Heights or Dearborn resident? Check out a mobile hotspot from the Dearborn Heights Library to stay connected wherever you go.
Our hotspots use T-Mobile's cellular network to provide on-the-go high speed Wi-Fi internet access for up to 10 of your devices at once. For more information, talk to a member of our Circulation Desk staff on your next visit to the library.
Power Banks
Are you a Dearborn Heights or Dearborn resident? Check out a mobile power bank from the Dearborn Heights Library to stay powered up wherever you go.
Our power banks are portable little batteries capable of charging up a modern iPhone or Android phone a little more than four times before being depleting. They're perfect for day trips where you need to stay charged up while on the go, and they're extra perfect for when the power goes out. Stay in contact with loved ones and take some power home with you to stay charged up while the power lines get fixed. A power bank can be checked out at the same time as one of our mobile hotspots! For more information, talk to a member of our Circulation Desk staff on your next visit to the library.
Desktop Computers
The library is proud to serve the public with modern computers featuring solid state drives for fast performance and the latest Windows 11 operating system. Each PC has a wealth of tools and utilities installed, starting with Firefox and Chrome, and for multi-lingual support, Chrome in Iraqi Arabic. Use your library card to start a session, or ask the Circulation Desk for a free Guest Pass. Our policy is to serve up to ten free pages of printing per day per person, whether you use your library card or a guest pass to get logged on.
Laptop Computers (Caroline Kennedy only)
Are you using a study room but also need a PC? We have modern Surface laptops with ARM processors for use exclusively within the library. Use your library card or State ID to borrow one, and enjoy computing from wherever you feel most at home within the library. Videoconferencing apps are installed, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams for use with the built-in webcam and microphones for when you need to meet virtually from within the library.
Disability Station (Caroline Kennedy currently)
For those with vision impairment or disabilities, we have a carefully set up workstation with its own deskspace (wheelchair accessible) to better serve you. Those with vision impairment will benefit from a 32" screen, with a desktop environment featuring large default elements and high contrast.
Broadband internet access is an essential utility in today's world. We want to help get you connected.

John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library
At the John F. Kennedy, Jr. branch, we're proud to serve the public with an open and shared set of spaces to read, study, do work, and relax. Enjoy yourself by doing a puzzle, reading by the fireplace, working at one of our desks, or perusing our vibrant children's, teen, and adult reading sections.
Caroline Kennedy Library
